OUR STORY & PHILOSOPHY

A vibrant co-educational international day and boarding school

The British International School of Bacău (BISB) is founded on the educational model of the British International School of Timișoara (BIST), established in 2019 and now home to around 590 students from more than 30 nationalities.

BIST is accredited by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS), is a registered Cambridge International school, and is an authorised IB World School. It has been inspected by the UK’s Independent Schools Inspectorate as a British School Overseas (BSO).

BISB brings that same educational philosophy, curriculum standard and pastoral care to Bacău, introducing Romania’s first British Curriulum private boarding international school. Mr Ciprian Tiplea, Founding Director of BISB, is also the founding head of BIST, and carries one shared standard of care across both schools.

You can trust in credible brand where BISB leverages the track record and high standards of its sister school BIST, to provide high quality education from the outset.

OUR VISION, MISSION & VALUES

What makes us special

At BISB, our vision and mission sit at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to embedding our core values not only in our academic programmes, but throughout the daily life of our school, in the classroom and beyond, at school boarding.

OUR VISION

“To provide the foundation on which our children can flourish.”

It is our mission to build a community of learners, in which children are given rich opportunities to grow and develop at every level. We extend that idea of “learners” beyond our students, to every teacher and member of our community touched by what we do at BISB.

Great teachers are learners too, reflecting continually on their own practice. It is our ambition for BISB to become a true centre of excellence in education, a model for other schools, carrying our values into the wider world.

OUR MISSION

“To inspire our students to Learn and Live with Purpose.”

OUR VISION, MISSION & VALUES

A Culture of Values

Our values shape the way we teach, learn and grow together. Through curiosity, kindness, respect and collaboration, we foster a school culture where every pupil feels valued, takes pride in their achievements and develops the confidence to make a positive difference.

We Think, We Explore, We Learn

Learning is the process of acquiring knowledge and skills, and children are born with a natural curiosity and desire to learn. It is our responsibility, as parents and educators, to nurture that desire and to give our children the opportunities to explore and discover. We want them to develop a genuine love of learning, alongside a habit of reflection and thinking, so that they learn to weigh different perspectives and possibilities before forming opinions and making decisions.

We Listen, We Respect, We Care

We want our children to grow in self-esteem, resilience and confidence, while also developing compassion and empathy for others. We want them to understand that their actions, words and daily habits shape who they become, and always affect those around them and the world they live in. This begins with learning to listen, and understanding that respect, for people and for the environment, is essential to building positive relationships and a fulfilling life.

We Speak Up, We Participate, We Strive

One of a school's most important roles is helping children understand that they belong to something larger than themselves, a fast-growing, ever-changing society in which their contributions matter. To play their part, they must learn to speak up with confidence, to participate with generosity and goodwill, and to strive in everything they do. We want our children to understand that society will shape them, just as they, in turn, have the power to shape society.

HEAD OF SCHOOL’S MESSAGE

A transformational school in Bacău

A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDING HEAD

Welcome to the British International School of Bacău. I am honoured to be its founding Head, and to help build a school that will shape children for the rest of their lives from its very first day.

At the centre of everything we do sits a genuine curiosity for learning, one that reaches well beyond the requirements of any exam syllabus. I want our students to leave BISB not only well qualified, but well educated: able to think independently, probe and question, and become an alumni of life long learners.

Children remember what intrigues and inspires them, this makes learning memorable. Developing intellectual curiosity is important to enable students to engage with the wider world around them. Real achievement rarely comes easily, and our students will learn how to work hard, recover from setbacks, and pursue with resolution.

We place academic achievement and commitment to learning at the heart of what we do. However, our vision of education extends far beyond academic outcomes to where students flourish. We aim to provide a rich and meaningful experience that broadens horizons, creates new possibilities and enables our students to achieve more than they ever imagined.

I look forward to being part of their journey. I am pleased to welcome our founding families to Bacău, and to build something genuinely special together.

Philip Thomas, Founding Head

A Campus Designed for Learning

British International School of Bacău is built around the same successful campus design as our sister school, the British International School of Timișoara, a model that has already proven itself as an outstanding environment for learning. Purpose-built for BISB and opening in September 2027, the campus brings modern classrooms, science labs and specialist teaching spaces together with generous green courtyards and walkways.

The school estate is significant in size, with considerable space for future growth. As BISB expands towards full secondary provision by 2031, the campus is designed to grow with it, adding facilities and capacity in step with each new cohort.
